Something to look forward too

Post by Daywalker on Tue Jan 24, 2012 8:48 pm

Well, after a couple years of wanting and being let down, this is the year. Tonight, I just placed my order for the AA 50 Beowulf 16.5" upper with the Tank Brake (looks just like the barret m99 brake) along with 2 boxes of ammunition from their website. The reason, for 10.00 they would thread the barrel and additional 95.00 attach the brake and ship it to me. I have asked around and some of the gunsmiths locally was wanting anywhere between 45-80 bucks to thread the barrel.

I was planning on using my Grendel lower for both. However, a trip to the local and my favorite pawn shop, I came home with this....

It is a Del-Ton Lower. When I compared this to the other lower they had, Double Star, it was just smoother and did not hav any "seams" showing from any of the milling. It just looked way better. There are 2 scratches on it, however, it was not like that at the pawn shop Sad all I can say, bad luck follows me, but hey, by the time I get around to building it and while building it, I am sure there will be more where that came from. They had it for 119.00. I figured heck, I was gonna order one for 79.00 but by the time I paid shipping and the transfer fee, I would just be coming out ahead this route. Plus, I am putting money back into my town and helping the locals out.

I will still be sharing the Grendel lower as this build will be a little at a time. Momma said no more allowence for a while LOL...

From Alexander Arms's website..

Ok it appears that the link redirects to AA website. Just looking at that web address, I answered no. Once clicked, yes, it redirected to their site and that is the Upper I purchased with the option barrel thread and the tank brake....

Well, the wife did another 360, She bought me a LPK along with a 6 pos collapsable stock... Have it all put together, picture to come. Well, almost all, I got everything but the bolt catch, ummm, I lost my punches and I messed up the one punch that would install it Embarassed

Thats ok tho, Sherry told me to bring it to her shop, when Ed gets there, he would install it for me since he doesn't loan out his tools LOL...

I think I will move this thread to gunsmithing, I mean, were talking about putting together a lower now LOL...

I install the bolt catch pin with a pair of pliers....use a piece of plastic or dense cardboard on the opposite side from which you are installing the pin to keep from marking up the receiver.

It was offered, I do not like to borrow other peoples tools as if I mess it up, then I am replacing which isn't a problem. He has done way more Lowers than I have, so I trusted him to do the one second install and not mar it up...

Hawcer, that is a good tip to know! Thanks...

Ok, I was wanting to order the Rock River Arms LPK and the RRA's collapsable stock, however, the wife had already purchased locally the DPMS LPK along with the DPMS Collapsable stock. Can't really argue with her, I mean, I wasn't even suppose to have the stuff until later on down the road LOL. I figure, if I need to, I could polish up parts if they are a little rough. Test functions however, seems to be pretty smooth as is...

As mentioned before, it is a Del-Ton Lower...

looks good! Smile

Put a little of your ATG swage lube on the trigger engagement points and sear to help smooth out that DPMS fcg. J/k, haha.
I have bent the hammer springs on the factory milspec fcg to relieve a little spring tension, which lightens the trigger some...I've never had light hammer strikes either.

I look forward to seeing the copletion of this build.

The 50 Beo is a hell of a round. I was concerned with case life with the small rebated rim, but so far I have not lost a case.

Cases are pricey though. I got some from Quality Cartridge and some from Midway.

Hey Scorge, what dies are you using to load yours with? AA is the only place I can find Hornady dies, but at 90 bucks, I think it won't be them. Prob end up with Lee dies...

I have CH4D dies that I ordered the sizing die TiN coated. Came out a bit under $150 but the dies are awsome and take little lube.

To some of you, the site I will be mounting to my Beowulf, isn't new. To the other members, I figured I would post a picture of what site will be mounted to the rifle...
