If your oven has a self cleaning cycle its IMO the best way to anneal after you derim. caution though it gets kinda smoky if you dont boil them in soap n water first.

Ditto what 30-06 said. My first batch in the stove I did not prewash and the amount of smoke pouring out was incredible. Thought the house was afire!

Ended up having to open all the doors and windows and dig a couple fans out of the shed. Not generally something you want to have to do in mid December here in the soggy Pacific North West.

I have found that boiling the hulls outside on my propane stove with a mixture of Dawn dish soap and about a cup or so of vineger and about a handful of Borax seems to cut the crud enough to stop the smoking.

If you do not have Borax or Dawn, Lemishine and trisodium phosphate work well too. You can find the TSP at your local hard ware store in the paint section, or your local kitchen supply for industrial cleaning.

One note on the TSP (which you can also find at your local home brew store as a sanitizer): it will kill your septic tank if you have one, so use sparingly if on a septic.

I dilute mine and use to scrub the driveway, TSP is great at getting grease stains out of concrete. The boiling hot water mixed with TSP is great at getting those tuff oil stains in the driveway.
