Started on my bench

Post by brow_tines on Sun Jul 15, 2012 7:36 am

Well I finally got started working on my bench......

I got some cull lumber from a saw mill, here is some oak I used for the top, I sanded it down using 60 grit, 80 grit, 150 grit and finally 220 grit. It's actually smooth but still has the blade marks from the saw mill. I used "Old American" winwax stain, and I really liked the way it turned out.

And finally, just moving all my stuff in, just to see what I had.

It's still a work in progress, but I'm liking it Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Looking good brow_tines. I like saw marks to a degree - gives it charecter and a rustic look. I guess that is just me being old fashioned ?? There is a guy I know that has a wall in his living room that was made from rough sawn cypress that was finished similar to what you did but he nailed them up diagonally instead of vertical. I have always enjoyed looking at it.
It won't be long before you are happily cranking out ammo from your new shop Smile

Looks like it is nice and sturdy. Looks good! Using brass casings for drawer pulls is a nice touch too..
