Howdy Folks

Post by Quick Draw McGraw on Wed Feb 20, 2013 10:19 pm

Joe here from Marysville Wa.
Stumbled upon this cool site via a great youtube video a few days ago.
Been meaning to get back into loading for some time now, used to load my own shotgun shells
with a little LEE' setup back in the 70's.
Will be mainly doing 38/357 rounds soon, I have 2 single stage presses on their way
back ordered from Cabelas' had it narrowed down to the new RCBS "Summit"
.. & the LEE' classic cast breech lock", couldnt make up my mind so I saved up & got both. cyclops
Dont have any desire for anything faster' or fancier right now, slow & easy is how I like it*
I have several weeks to put together the rest of the gear with the RCBS' (12' weeks)
& the LEE' (7 weeks) out Neutral
Dont plan on loading more than 50 or 100 at a sitting, I'm lucky if I can afford to get to the range
once every month or two for a couple hundred rounds.
I'm a sucker for the old classic revolvers & have several S&W's & Rugers.
Been brushing up & cramming the best I can from the internet' & picked up the Lyman's #49 yesterday.

Lookin forward to learning from all you "roll your owners" & pickin' your brains soon. bounce
Thanks for the welcome*

Hey' thanks for the welcome wagon fella's
I had a few big pieces of 3/4 inch marine plywood left over from our last exterior
construction job, I glued 2 together roughly 3'ft x 5'ft, stained, & gave 6 coats of polyurethane.
Not the largest workspace but I think I'll do just fine in our very limited space in a tiny stuffed garage.
I have already purchased 4 sets of dies, 2 LEE' delux carbide 4 packs, .. 1 RCBS 3 die carb set,
& the mega Redding titanium carb extravaganza* still on back order at Cabelas.

I was thinking of getting the rcbs uniflow' powder thrower but I just read that it will only dispense
from 5 to 100 grains, & from what I gather most of my standard pressure 38's are below that scale,
3 to 5 grains, am I missing something?
I believe the less expensive Lee Perfect' will go as low as 3 grains' & then trickle to taste?
I know I'll be getting the rcbs 505 beam scale next payday.
Yes I think I'v caught the bug! lol, .. cant wait to get my presses.

Thanks again for the welcome guy's .. think I'll go study my new Lyman Guide. Smile

I have never had an issue throwning powder charges with any of my uniflow powder measures for 38/357 I have loaded several thousand 38's. There for a while I was on a kick of shooting wheel guns, I liked the fact I didn't have to look for my brass because I knew right where it was when I was done shooting.

The uniflow measure you are looking at, does it have the large and small rotors? I use the small rotor for just about all my pistol loads. Also I use the powder baffle, it helps keep a constant ammount of powder right on top of the rotor and helps eliminate a variation from a full hopper to a almost empty hopper. Personally I think it should ship with the powder measure.
