My "I want" is starting to itch

Post by george457d on Thu Apr 25, 2013 9:27 am

300Blackout
450Bushmaster
458Socom
I have yet to own an AR platform , But I think I'm gonna break-down and get one of them damn-ugly's ... But I need to balance availability of components , with affordability , with something that isn't gonna shoot farther than I can see ,and still drop a 200lbs. hog ... Troll
Whats the pro's and cons , most of all , WHY ? Bug

I personally would go with a 5.56 or 6.8 spc. The 300 blackout round has about the same ballistics as a .30-30 and to me doesnt seem worth it unless you are going to go suppressed.

Personally I'd go with something in the 6.5mm category.

Having own both the 450 and a 300Blk.....

The 300 Is a close range cartridge imo, within 100 yards is best. The 450 can reach out to 200 with accuracy no problem, but the drop will get you after that. I'd say it makes a great cartridge out to 150 yards( really close to using a 50cal inline ML in comparison). both will take down a hog and will really shine wooded or confined areas.

But if consistently shooting wide open 200 + yard shots, I'd look for something a little flatter shooting.maybe something in 6mm or 6.5mm.

200yds is good for me , because I gotta keep an eye out for cattle and neighbors , I wondering if ther was any feeding problems with the 450 being straight wall vs the socom458 being bottle-necked ?

The 450b has never had a feeding issue for me. I can't say about the 458, I've never used one.

I can say that the 450B headspaces off the case mouth and the 458 off the shoulder...usually off the shoulder is preferred if possible.
